Sometimes called a cap, a crown protects and strengthens tooth structure that has too much damage to be repaired with a filling or only. A crown completely covers the tooth surface allowing it to return to its original size and shape. At Flower Dental, all our crowns are made of beautiful tooth-colored porcelain that is chosen to match the color of your natural teeth. Crowns are highly durable and will last many years, but like most dental restorations, they may eventually need to be replaced.
Reasons for Crowns:
Dr. Flower is able to create most crowns in one convenient, comfortable visit. Using CEREC technology, he starts by taking 3D digital images to get detailed, precise measurements of the dimensions of your mouth. He uses that information and our remarkable milling unit to create a customized all-porcelain restoration that is beautiful, durable and comfortable. You can even watch your crown as it is being made. Dr. Flower finishes by bonding the newly created tooth or teeth into place.CEREC technology allows you to avoid the normal hassle of getting a crown, bridge or denture.
Chairside: Amazing technology allows Dr. Flower to work his magic while you sit comfortably in the dental chair.
Economical: Instead of two visits like at most offices, one visit means less travel and less time away from work and family.
Esthetic: No metal materials means Dr. Flower can create a perfect blend of shade and color for your teeth.
Ceramic: High-strength, durable ceramic closely replicates the composition of natural tooth assuring you of years of normal function.
Occasionally, Dr. Flower will determine that the best option for a patient is to get an all Zirconia crown from the lab. One of the biggest advantages of zirconia is its exceptional strength and durability. When Dr. Flower chooses this option, the procedure requires two appointments. At your first appointment, we will take several highly accurate impressions. These are usually taken with our 3D scanning technology but occasionally they require actual molds. While the tooth is numb, Dr. Flower will prepare the tooth by removing any decay and properly shaping the surface to fit the crown. We will create a temporary crown which will stay on your tooth for approximately two weeks while your new crown is fabricated by a dental laboratory. Dr. Flower will use temporary cement to attach your temporary crown and your bite will be checked to ensure you are biting properly. At your second appointment, your temporary crown will be removed, the tooth will be cleaned and your new crown will be carefully placed to ensure correct spacing and bite.
